Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, sometimes called ple Maisonneuve in some tourism information booklets, includes the Olympic stadium and its surroundings.

The Olympic stadium was built for the 1976 Olympics. You can find many activities near the Olympic stadium, there is the botanical garden and the insectarium, the biodome and the stadium itself. The main entrances to these activities are located around the corner of Sherbrooke street (east) and Pie-IX boulevard.

The Maisonneuve market is also a place to visit, the old market building itself was renovated and a new building was added and there are many events taking place in the market square.

Must see :

• Olympic stadium and its tower, There's a scenic elevator that goes to the top (it's the tallest leaning structure in the world) where you can also see small temporary exhibitions and shows. But it's not the best view of Montreal. There's also a guided tour of the stadium and it's surroundings, every day (june-aug.) between 9:00am and 17:00, otherwise (winter) between 11:00am and 14:00. Pie-IX metro station.
• Biodome (ecological live museum showing different working eco systems, is located near the base of the olympic stadium's tower, on the old olympic cycling racing track). Viau metro station.
• Botanical gardens (just north of the olympic stadium), indoor (hothouses) and outdoors. It's the largest botanical garden after London and it has the largest Chinese garden outside of asia. Open from 8:00am to dawn. Pie-IX metro station. The entrance is on the corner Sherbrooke and Pie-IX. There's a new pavillion in the northern part of the gardens, it's called the Maison des Arbres (the house of trees), it houses an interactive exhibition on trees.
• Insectarium (insects live and formerly alive, located in the botanical gardens). It's the only insectarium in north america, and has a live butterfly garden, opened between 9:00am and 18:00. Pie-IX metro station.
• the Maisonneuve market, the square and its fountain. The second empire style market building has been renovated and a new indoor market building was added to the square, but unfortunatly the surroundings look a little neglected and there is no outdoor market (unlike the Jean-Talon or Atwater markets) so it's not as busy as the other two markets. There are also many activities and event now taking place in the square, from a qubcois folklore festival to medieval shows. The market is located between the Pie-IX and Viau metro station south of the Olympic stadium (between Ontario street to the south and Rouen street to the north, Letourneux to the west and Bennett to the east).
• the Morgan public bath, a beautiful building that once was used as one of many public baths in Montreal. It is located near the Maisonneuve market.
